Airbnb Experience: Play with Clay in a Fanciful Studio

Sign up for a class and studio tour with Airbnb Experiences. Layl will give you a tour of Clay Squared which is a working studio in two types of clay- Ceramic and Polymer clay. You'll be surrounded by Layl's sculptures and Josh's tiles. Then you'll learn a few easy techniques in polymer clay that even the non-artistic can pick up right away. You will need an Airbnb account to sign up.

Adult Clay Camp

All the kids get to do fun camps in the summer, why not adults?!  This class was dreamt up by one of our favorite customers Joyce Gavino.  We will spend two hours of each day learning techniques in polymer clay and then the last two hours free time creating!  Learn all kinds of cool magic tricks like millefiori, transfers, inclusions and textures!  Then make something fun like a pencil holder, wall art, sculptural animals, or jewelry!  You'll get inspired by all the art in Layl's studio and from each other!  After the class the group will plan to go out to  get drinks and/or dinner if you would like to continue the fun into the night!

Kids Clay Camp

Learn a new magical technique each day in the first half of the class and then spend the second half of each class experimenting and creating.  Some techniques we will learn include: Millefiori, glitter and mica powder, Makume-gane, transfers, and sculpting.  You'll also be able to use all kinds of mixed media found objects!

Polymer Clay Gnomes

Is your garden or your plants looking for a little friend?  Learn how to make the magical flowers to cover his hat and build this funny little guy. Add fun accessories with your extra clay. Then you will take your creation home and bake it in your own oven to harden the clay.

Flower For Intermediate Classs (1)

 

Intermediate Millefiori Class

You will learn several simple techniques, such as the jellyroll, checkerboard, stripes, and bullseye. We will incorporate these techniques into more detailed designs to make flowers, stars, butterflies, and more! I will supply the clay, pre-conditioned and pre-mixed, so we can learn a lot in one night. You will also learn some color mixing techniques and secrets. At the end of the class, you’ll have beautiful canes to make into beads, buttons, magnets, or use to cover objects. No previous polymer clay experience is needed, but this class is a great step up from the intro class if you have already taken that.

Red Sun Wall Piece

 

Sun Sculpture Class

Create a 5 to 7-inch sun with lots of glitter and polymer clay! Learn Layl's special sculptural stuffing technique and glitter techniques. Plus create your own millefiori kaleidoscope design to use on some of the rays of your sun. You will also use some of Layl's scrap pile for details like the eyes and mouth. This finished piece can be hung on the wall to bring you some sunshine year-round.

Little Clayers Class

Got some little ones that want to play with clay?  This is your chance to introduce them to polymer clay- a clay that bakes in your oven- even more fun than play dough!  This class is designed for an adult to share the experience with one or more kids ages 4 1/2 and up.  Have fun rolling and squishing, and then add your clay to an object like a jar or a frame and bake it up in your own oven!  The price is $40 (adults accompanying a child are free.

Guest Artist Classes: Laura Burlis

Laura Burlis is a sculptor and polymer clay artist who has studied and made art in the USA, Australia, and Italy. Most recently she was Artist-in-Residence at Glacier National Park in 2017. She is inspired by the natural world, and her nature-based artwork has been shown all around the Twin Cities. She loves teaching both kids and adults while sharing her passion for the art form.

Are your garden fairies running out of accommodations this summer?
Make a fairy house jar in which you can put a battery candle that shines through the real glass windows!
Make a "bullseye" millefiori cane to shingle your roof, then add all the homey details that fairies want: shrubs & vines, fancy windows and shutters, and anything your imagination can create! Result: a home fit for a fairy! Bake at home; instructions provided.
